ITINERARY
Day 1 : Arrival
Labadi Beach Hotel
On arrival in Ghana late evening, you will be met, assisted and transferred to your hotel in Accra.
Day 2 : Accra City Tour
After breakfast go on a city tour of Accra – highlights will include:
W. E. B. Du Bois Centre honoring the life of one of the most Prominent Pan Africanists who chose to settle in Ghana.
Independence Square
Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and Museum – a tribute to Ghana’s first President.
Day 3 : Accra City Tour pt. 2
Spend a day of relaxation on Labadi Beach, spend time at the Spa, or do some shopping at the Arts Center
Day 4 : Travel to Kumasi
Golden Tulip Hotel
Take a 5-hour bus ride to Kumasi. You will then check into the hotel and relax for the evening.
Day 5 : Kumasi tour
Arrive in Kumasi by mid-afternoon. In the city, you will drive past Kejetia Market the biggest market in West Africa before returning to your hotel. You may visit the market if you wish and time allows.
You will also visit some of the Ashanti craft villages starting with the woodcarving village of Ahwiaa, known for the talented craftsmen who fashion royal stools, walking sticks and fertility dolls from wood. You will have the opportunity to purchase hand carved items of all kinds.
The next stop is the village of Ntonso where artisan’s hand-stamp patterns on cotton cloth to make Adinkra textiles. Adinkra cloth is worn for funerals and other solemn occasions.
Day 6 : Kumasi Tour pt. 2
After breakfast, you will travel through several scenic villages with fine examples of traditional Ghanaian buildings. The final village is Bonwire, where the famous Kente cloth is handmade on looms in a time-honored tradition passed down through generations. You will see the Kente weavers in process of creating Kente cloth in various styles, and have the opportunity to purchase expertly woven Kente souvenirs .
Day 7 : Travel to Elmina stop at Last Bath
Coconut Grove Hotel
Take a 4 Hour drive to Elmina. Along the way, stop at The Last Bath or Assin Manso Slave market which was the location for washing and sorting of the slaves. You will then check into your hotel in Elmina and relax on the beach.
Day 8 : Cape Coast Castle/ City Tour
Today you will experience an emotional journey visiting Cape Coast Castle which held more enslaved Africans captive than any other in the region, viewing the dungeons and the infamous “Door of no return”. Cape Coast Castle was designated a world heritage site by UNESCO.
There is a magnificent historical museum inside, which explains the history of the castle and of Cape Coast. During your time here, you will have the opportunity to purchase literature on all of Ghana’s forts and castles, as well as the cultural history and traditions of Ghana.
Day 9 : Final day of departure
After breakfast, spend more time in Elmina. Head from Cape Coast to Accra with a stop at the village of Abandze, the Ancestral home of Louis Armstrong, the famous American jazz musician before making your way to the airport for departure.
